I wake up in the morning and wander downstairs to make my coffee. The cat runs in-between my feet meowing and the dog jumps at the door wanting to be let out. I am starting to feel like I am in the movie “Groundhog Day“. I turn on my laptop and cell phone to check email and social media. The news is depressing with numbers rising everyday so, I turn to social media, to look for uplifting posts and news of community heroes.
I always thought that, if I just had a reason to stay home a few days, I would get so much done. I would tackle all the household chores that get put on hold, my crochet projects would all get finished and I would read the hundreds of books on the bookshelf.
Reality Check:
- I have yet to crack open a book.
- I have been crocheting but it is the same blanket for weeks.
- only the necessary household chores have been done.
I am not going to beat myself up over this, as I realize, that it is okay to slow down and take a pause in life. I am always creating to do lists. Maybe ,just maybe, that list isn’t as important as my self-care and mental health. So, for anyone out there that is feeling the same way as myself, don’t worry about it, we are in this together and we are not expected to get everything done.
I see a lot of posts commending all front line workers during this time and I can’t agree more. “THANK YOU” to all the Truck drivers, store workers, doctors and nurses, lab techs, cleaners and custodians, maintenance workers, bus drivers, subway drivers, take-out restaurants, construction workers and many more. (sorry if I missed you)
BUT I WANT TO REMIND YOU….. WE ARE ALL HEROES:
- Think of all the moms and dads at home..HEROES!
- There are parents having to work from home with their children under their feet. Trying to explain to their children why they can’t go out and play with their friends, why they can’t go to school, why they can’t go and stay with their grandparents..HEROES!
- Think of the people who live alone and are staying indoors without any human contact..HEROES!
- The elderly who are learning technology in order to connect with their family and loved ones..HEROES!
- All of us who are self isolating and learning a different way to communicate and keep busy..HEROES!
- everyone reaching out to neighbours and friends and dropping off supplies to those who cannot get out..HEROES!
- neighbourhoods decorating their houses with rainbows and smiley faces and drawing on sidewalks to make people smile as they go for a walk..HEROES!
So Let’s all stand up and be proud of ourselves. We are all HEROES during this pandemic no matter who you are or what you are doing.
Stay Safe, Stay Healthy
